About Tanning

Tanning. Sunshine. Vitamin D

UV exposure and Vitamin D

While tanning is marketed as a cosmetic activity, the latest Vitamin D research shows that tanning is natural and pretty much what nature intended us to do. It is becoming more obvious that humans need moderate UV exposure as the only true natural way to make Vitamin D. Light is essential to all life on earth. The growing body of scientific evidence is showing that people actually require light exposure to function effectively. Sunshine is the best source of Vitamin D. In fact, we produce a big percentage of our Vitamin D from it and call it the Sunshine Vitamin for a reason. Scientists are now linking Vitamin D to positive effects on various kinds of cancers, hypertension, diabetes, depression, osteoporosis, and various other physiological and psychological functions.

Misconception and Special Interests

Many of the parties promoting that any UV exposure causes damage have ties to the $35 billion sunscreen/sun-scare industry, which is motivated by profit and wants you to overuse their sun protection products. Sun-scare articles, many funded by this industry, will greatly add to today’s Vitamin D-deficient epidemic. It is likely that excessive and uncontrolled exposure to ultraviolet rays could lead to skin cancer, and we should take cancer threats very seriously. However, mankind needs sunlight for the nutrients and vitamins it provides. Responsible and moderate sun exposure will help with that need. Remember that excess of just about anything in life can be unhealthy.

Moderation is the Key

We take pride in promoting moderation in tanning, properly evaluating your skin type, and tanning you in a responsible and efficient way. We advise a short exposure time in the beginning and a gradual increase as you start developing your tan. By measured, steady exposure, the burn is avoided, while your skin slowly but surely builds the ability to create a tan. It’s recommended that you allow 48 hours between each session to permit your tan to fully develop between visits. Once you are tan, you can maintain your tan with visits of one to three times per week, depending on your skin type. Also, to help prolong the life of your tan, make sure to keep your skin moisturized with a high quality moisturizer. Our salon professionals will be able to help you choose the perfect lotion for your skin type. We hope to see you soon, and remember: Avoid Sunburn, Not Sunshine!

For your convenience,we provide plenty of beds, extended hours, no contracts, no commitments, and no appointments in our tanning environment.
